Author Interview with David Bergsland
What sort of inspiration got you to write your book?
My first book, “Printing In A Digital World”, was given to me by a sovereign act of God, as far as I could tell. I was asked to write a book on digital printing though I had not the credentials or the experience necessary—I was just in a unique place given to me by the Lord where my materials were unique. My end times book, “The Righteous Perish”, was inspired by the Lord telling me that no one had it figured out and they would not be able to do that. This is included me. So, my inspiration was to write an end times scenario which fit scripture but was quite different than the standard “Left Behind”stereotype.
My technothriller, “Daniel’s Mighty Men”, was inspired by the stories in the press in New Mexico, which showed conclusively that many of Mexican descent [a majority in the state] believed that New Mexico and the rest of the Southwest should secede and form a new nation, Aztlan. They were very serious. I could see the threat.
What makes this book special among others of its type?
PIDW was the first in the country and maybe the world to teach digital printing in a college curricula. TRP is unique in providing a new scenario to readers to help them keep their options open as we wait for the soon coming of the Lord. DMM This spec ops/military thriller is led by a private black ops company headed up by spirit-filled Christians: The husband is a CIA gunsmith and weapons developer. The wife was a legendary CIA assassin who left because of the lies and was saved. She is now the Pastor of a non-denominational church in the valley. The heroine is their daughter who is a black ops operator who has been thinking she was employed by an arm of the CIA.
She discovers her parents employ her boss and there is no official government connection. They end up supporting a spirit-filled Presidential candidate who is forced totake matters into his own hands when the current president and the Secretary of State are seen to part of the conspiracy which has resulted in a Mexican invasion of New mexico, Arizona, and California to establish the new country of Aztlan with the American president’s blessing.
Where were you born and where do you call home?
I was born in a suburb of Buffalo, New York on D-Day. I am currently living in Mankato, Minnesota—a small city in the heart of the farming country of southern Minnesota. My heart is still in New Mexico where my wife and I lived for 25 years.
Tell us about something that has just happened or is about to happen in your life that you would like to share.
It seems like the Lord wants me to make the switch from non-fiction to fiction.
Is there an Author that you would really like to meet?
Paul
Do you prefer e-books, paperbacks or hardcover?
Any of the three. Presently, I probably prefer ePUBs viewed in iBooks, but I mainly read Kindle books in the app on my iPad. I read a couple hundred books a year [for the past sixty years] and it is easier to support my reading habit with ebooks and especially Kindle books.
Are you a self-published (Indie) Author?
I have about 40+ Self-published books.
What book would you like to read again?
I reread Clive Cussler’s books regularly. I just reread Vince Flynn’s “Term Limits”.
Who designed the cover of your book?
I did. I’ve been a graphic designer and artist since the late 1960s.
So do you like to cook?
Yes, and I like to bake.
Do you have a favorite food?
A good hamburger with fresh ground chuck from the local butcher.
Do you prefer vanilla or chocolate ice cream?
Neither, I don’t like ice cream much, but what I like is espresso with chocolate. If I have a choice, I get a frozen mocha or a Frappuccino.
Do you use a laptop or desktop for writing?
Desktop. A four-year-old iMac
Where and when do you prefer to do your writing?
In my office, from when I get up until when I get my wife up. Usually 2-4 hours every morning
